It was deciding on which car I was going to drive to work. Usually, I drive the 3 to work without question; however, the 3 was on empty, probably enough fuel to get home and back, but I don’t like running cars that low on fuel. Luckily, the M3 had more than half a tank in it. No problem, I’ll take the M3 to work, and let future James deal with the fuel situation in the 3. This is when I remembered my work ID was in my 3 and I would have to get it out. That wouldn’t be a problem other than the fact that I use separate key chains for the M3 and 3 keys, which would mean I either left the keys to the 3 in the M3 or returned them to my apartment. Since I don’t like to leave keys to cars in my car, I would have had to return them to my third floor apartment. I also put the M3 on its battery tender last night, so I would have to disconnect that before I drove to work. Still not a deal breaker, then I walked outside and it was raining; I don’t like driving the M3 in the rain. It’s not because I mind it getting rained on, at times all it feels like it wants to swap ends, I just don’t enjoy driving it in the rain. For some reason, the 3 has always felt more planted in the rain. As you can see from my picture, you can see how I solved my conundrum this morning.

Those are not bad dillemmas to have...

My LS400 is on some major fumes right now. Don’t know how I got to work.

i had a first world problem the other day. I pulled up to the pump on the wrong side. It’s still etched into my brain that my gas cap in on the left, from 10 years of owning cars like that(Honda and Toyota ) . I had about a 5 minute rant in my head about the stupid G erma n engineers who put my fuel filler on the wrong side.
My wife had the opposite problem because her Cavalier had it on the right and her Fit is on the left as G od, and Mr. Honda intended.

I would have grabbed my LEXUS ISF but my other LEXUS was in the way of the garage and I was already running late so I ended up taking the LEXUS that was almost out of gas and running the risk of not making it.

That’s why I referred to them as a first world problem. It wasn’t a complaint, just a delve into why I drove my 3 to work today.

I had about a 5 minute rant in my head about the stupid German engineers who put my fuel filler on the wrong side.
I believe it’s so if you run out of fuel you’re filling the car on the side that’s shielded from traffic.

I still habitually check the little arrow on the fuel pump icon.
Which conveniently does not exist on my 328i cluster.

It’s generally based on the design of the car and which is more convenient for the engineers at the end of the day. Left or right side v aries for each manufacturer, sometimes even on different models within their lines.
Plus a lot of models are sold in both left and right hand drive countries, and they don’t move the position of the fuel filler door regardless of which drive side they sell them in.

AFAIK, there’s also a lot of European filling stations that are basically structured like a pit lane - pull off the right side of the road, pump’s right there, then rejoin the road.
So, to use those, you really want the filler on the right.

Jesus Christ.

This is why it’s preferable to have the gas fill in the middle of the back, so you can, nay, have to pull way past the pump on either side, and fill up at any pump while blocking off pathways through the station!
Ahem. Not that I know anything about that.

I do think that was a good idea, except the whole, safety issue of getting rear ended with the fill tube right there... meh

There are some stations at which the fill isn’t really long enough, and I briefly contemplate parking perpendicular to the pumps to elevate “dick” to “unbelievable asshole”.

Haha its way more of a first world problem for me deciding between taking the STi and the Miata to work. It doesnt rain, it doesnt get cold, and the weather is always mild here. So I have no excuse to not take the Miata other than I just feel like driving the STi. But if I see 10% chance of rain, the Miata stays home. If I have to park somewhere sketchy, the STi stays home. Every other reason is 100% first world problems.

This is why we give nicknames to all our cars. So instead of me announcing in public to my wife that “I’m going for a Sunday drive in the BMW today”, any eavesdroppers will simply think that my wife and I have an open marriage where I also share time with a male partner named Sylvester that I go for romantic rides with.

Mr. Honda intended the gas filler to be between your legs.

My BMW decided it didn’t want to hold coolant anymore, and now I can’t find the receipt from a year ago when the dealership replaced the radiator under warranty.
